Maharashtra road rage: Drunk driver runs over family on bike after spat, 2 dead

A drunk driver deliberately rammed his car into a family riding a bike, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her six-year-old daughter on the Latur-Ausa highway in Maharashtra, police said.
The road rage incident took place on the evening of September 29 following a minor altercation between the two drivers over reckless driving.
Police said Sadiq Sheikh was travelling with his wife, Ikra Sheikh, and their two children, Nadia, 6, and Ahad, when a speeding car driven by a man under the influence cut them off dangerously. After the near-miss, Sadiq approached the driver and politely requested him to drive more carefully.
This brief exchange escalated into a heated argument, after which the enraged car driver allowed Sadiq to pass but soon rammed his vehicle into the family’s bike from behind.
The impact caused severe injuries to Sheikh’s wife, Iqra Sheikh, and his six-year-old daughter, Nadia Sheikh. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Sheikh and his son, Ahad Sheikh, were seriously injured and rushed to a government hospital in Latur for treatment.
Police Inspector Sunil Rajitwad from Ausa Police Station said five individuals — Digambar Patole, Krishna Waghe, Basavaraj Dhotre, Manoj Mane, and Mudame — were in the four-wheeler at the time of the incident.
All five were arrested and charged with various offences, including reckless driving, causing death by negligence, and driving under the influence.
